Frederick “Frank” Gross

February 25, 1915 -July 5, 2011

 

Frederick “Frank” Gross, 96, of Janesville died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Cedar Crest Health Center. Frank was born on February 25, 1915 in Janesville Township, the son of Alexander and Sabine (Zesiger) Gross. He grew up on a farm in Harmony Township and attended a one room school, the Paul School. He later attended the John Deere School in Waterloo, IA. After working as a farm hand for a time, he worked at Albrech Implement in Whitewater and for the Lake Mills Implement Company. In 1941, Frank joined his brother, Edward in the family business, Gross Brothers Welding in Milton where he continued until they both retired in 1981. He married Iris Emily Tassell on July 14, 1951 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Janesville. Frank had many interest throughout his life including farming, farm equipment, gardening, ice fishing, building and repairing things, reading and day trips and drives in the country. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Iris, one daughter, Pat (John) Mork of Janesville, one sister, Alice Hergert of Milton, nephews, Alan Gross, Mike, Gary and Tom Hergert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Gross, his brother-in-law, Robert Hergert and his sister-in-law, Betty Gross.

Frank’s family wishes to thank the special caregivers at Cedar Crest and HospiceCare, Inc. for the wonderful care they gave him and his family.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home . Rev John Froiland will officiate. Burial will follow in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home. www.henkeclarson.com.
